Spruik Agency and the Certa Foundation Center for Climate Justice launch first ever English-Kinyarwada climate change glossary and strengthen partnership for climate action.
To mark the International Day of Climate Action, Spruik Agency and the Certa Foundation Center for Climate Justice today co-hosted an event titled, “The Future of Climate Education in Rwanda”, which brought together educators, policymakers, communicators, and youth leaders to discuss how Rwanda can build a more climate-literate and sustainability-driven generation.
At the heart of the event was the launch of the Rwanda Climate Change Glossary – a first-of-its-kind resource designed to enhance understanding of climate terms and concepts in the Rwandan context. The glossary, which describes climate related terminology in both Kinyarwanda and English, is a free resource that aims to make climate language more accessible to educators, students, journalists, and community actors, bridging the gap between technical knowledge and public awareness.
Speaking at the launch, Samuel Ngoga, Director of the Certa Foundation Center for Climate Justice, said: “Language shapes how we understand and respond to the climate crisis. The glossary is a tool to democratise climate knowledge, ensuring that everyone, from students, legal practitioners, to decision-makers, can engage with clarity and confidence.”

David Toovey, Managing Director of Spruik Agency, added: “E ective climate action begins with communication. By launching this glossary and deepening our partnership with the Certa Foundation Center for Climate Justice, we are equipping educators and communicators to inspire change and nurture leadership for sustainability.”
The event also featured presentations on the Leadership for Education for Sustainable Development (LEAD-ESD) programme by Dominique Mvunabandi, Head of the Science, Technology and Innovation Department at the Rwanda National Commission for UNESCO, who highlighted how integrating sustainability into Rwanda’s education system can prepare learners to lead in a changing world.
In a key milestone for collaboration, Spruik Agency and the Certa Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise joint e orts in advancing climate education, communications, and research. The agreement will enable the two institutions to co-develop educational materials, training programmes, and knowledge-sharing platforms that strengthen climate literacy and environmental leadership nationwide.
The event concluded with a call to scale up partnerships supporting the implementation of Rwanda’s climate and education priorities.
